Raspberry Pi Launches AI Camera Module Featuring Sony’s IMX500 Image Sensor
Raspberry Pi has teamed up with Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation to release the Raspberry Pi AI Camera, a powerful camera module with built-in AI capabilities. Powered by Sony’s IMX500 image sensor, this camera processes AI-based image tasks directly on Raspberry Pi devices without needing external processors.
The IMX500 sensor delivers 12MP images and supports two operating modes: a high-resolution 4056×3040 at 10 FPS and a faster 2028×1520 at 30 FPS. It also features a 78-degree field of view and adjustable focus, making it suitable for a wide range of projects.
Compatible with all Raspberry Pi models, including the Raspberry Pi Zero, the AI Camera connects via the standard Raspberry Pi camera ribbon cable. It’s now available for $70 from authorized retailers. For those using a Raspberry Pi 5, Raspberry Pi’s AI Kit offers a more robust solution but is limited to that specific model.
Consider this AI Camera for your next DIY project or AI development, bringing enhanced image processing right to your Raspberry Pi setup.
